Your Opportunity:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is responsible to participate as a member of the health care team and delivering consistent quality care to meet the needs of the patient. Care is provided to patients on an out-patient basis for Medical/Surgical clinics in Ambulatory Care. Working in a fast-paced multidisciplinary team environment, you will perform a variety of nursing duties including wound care, dressing applications, drain care, specimen collection, suture removal, and assisting with a variety of invasive procedures. Recognizing and addressing the needs of the inner-city population and incorporating the RAH WAY into everyday practice. Based on Ambulatory Care needs may need to assist with other clinics. This position also observes monitors, reports and documents changes in patient’s physical, mental, or emotional state to the Clinic Leadership/Team Lead. The LPN assists patients with activities of daily living and provides on-going education to patients and their families related to a patient’s condition. Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving, and computer skills are necessary for success in this position.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Two (2) years ambulatory care experience required. Three to Five (3-5) years of recent inpatient Medical/Surgical experience is required. Experience with wound care & drains is required. Incorporate he Royal Alex Way into everyday practice. Must maintain patient confidentiality. Must be able to demonstrate a professional attitude in the performance of all duties. Must be flexible, able to prioritize, organize workload, and adjust to rapidly changing needs of the department. Must have the ability to work in a fast paced and stressful environment. Must be self-motivated and be able to work both independently, as well as possess the ability to work well within a team. Strong communication skills required. Must be able to deal effectively with conflict and sensitive issues. The ability to perform movements such as bending, stooping, and standing for long periods of time is required. Experience in the following computer related programs is required: Connect Care scheduling and EMR, Alberta Netcare, Outlook, and Microsoft office.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with tunneled drainage catheters is preferred. Previous experience providing care to Thoracic patients preferred. Experience with initiation and management of Home Care Referrals preferred. Applicants must be able to push/pull/transfer and assist bariatric patients in W/C or over uneven surfaces with weights in excess of 350 pounds (150KG).
