The successful candidate will bring proven legal expertise in a health care setting to support the provincial health agency in delivering and coordinating primary care and public health services to Albertans. Description:

The Legal Counsel position reports directly to the General Counsel and works closely and collaboratively with Executives, Senior Leaders and Health Shared Services. The successful candidate will be required to provide legal advice and services on a range of matters across all PCA programs and must be prepared to make significant decisions and recommendations. An essential function is ensuring that PCA effectively operates within the legal framework set by governing bodies and successfully navigates the ever-changing applicable regulatory environment. Although the focus is corporate and commercial law, there will be opportunities and requirements to practice in the fields of litigation, labour & employment and health law. Key responsibilities of the position include: Drafting, reviewing and negotiating agreements and legal documents. Providing legal advice on corporate governance and regulatory compliance. Advising on legal risks and liabilities associated with various transactions and handling the legal aspects of acquisitions and divestitures. Liaising with Legal Shared Services and external legal counsel as needed. Collaborating with Senior Leaders to provide legal insights on various program initiatives. Staying updated on and communicating changes in laws and regulations that may impact PCA. Developing and implementing legal strategies to protect and promote PCA's interests.

Required Qualifications:

Law Degree from an accredited University. Licensed to practice law in Alberta and a member in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta. Minimum of 10 years of legal practice experience, preferably in a healthcare environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a healthcare organization. Experience working with government ministries. Experience collaborating with Senior and Executive Leadership.
