Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Trade Certificate from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a 2 year technical diploma/degree in a mechanical/electrical/instrumentation or related field will be deemed equivalent. Full working knowledge of applicable building systems, hospital non-medical equipment, and specialized areas. Overall knowledge of hospital organization and operations. Working knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and certifications as they apply to hospitals. Must be able and willing to work in all areas of the hospital and associated facilities. Must be able to communicate clearly in English; verbally and in writing. Must be willing to upgrade education in a changing environment. Must be client service and team oriented. Must have strong interpersonal skills and work cooperatively with others. Must be able to use initiative, make timely decisions and act competently without supervision. Must be able to maintain composure and make decisions in emergency situations. Must supervise / complete repairs and installations with due consideration to patients, staff and visitors. Must be able to organize workloads and ensure duties are completed in a timely and thorough manner. Must demonstrate technical problem solving abilities and be mechanically inclined. Must be able to read blueprints and locate operational data from operating / maintenance manuals.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in additional related trades / areas is an asset. Supervisory / management / leadership certification is an asset. Working knowledge of computer applications such as computerized maintenance management systems and Microsoft Office preferred. General knowledge of purchasing processes and sources of specialized parts preferred.
