Alberta Children’s Hospital is seeking a dedicated and reliable Lead Hand to join our Facilities and Maintenance team. This role plays a vital part in ensuring a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment that supports exceptional pediatric care for patients and families. The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing operation, inspection, repair, and preventative maintenance of building systems and equipment throughout the hospital. Responsibilities may include clinical building maintenance knowledge, perform minor repairs. responding to service requests, supporting facility and organizational improvement initiatives. Description:

As a Lead Hand, you will be responsible for providing functional supervision to a moderately sized group of similar journeyperson trade staff. In addition to functional supervision, you will perform a wide variety of journeyperson level trade duties associated with maintaining, renovating, repairing and construction in accordance with AHS standards and practices. You will assign work of journeyperson and supervise staff and perform ongoing maintenance work in an area of assigned trade or related responsibility. In addition, you will provide health and safety training and orientation and ensure compliance.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Journeyperson Certificate in trades from Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training.

Additional Required Qualifications:

This Lead Hand position supports patient care in a facility by addressing day to day operational issues, assisting and monitoring FM&E Team in safe work practices. Must bring a strong history of technical/team leadership while ensuring the safe and reliable operations of hospital building systems. Strong understanding of Alberta Building Code compliance in HVAC, Electrical (Low and high Voltage) Plumbing, along with other associated facility equipment within a healthcare environment. Responsibilities include contributing to implementing and assigning of daily tasks. Demand work as well as preventative maintenance programs. Strong Experience with computer skills. Oracle e-facilities, MS Outlook, Excel. Must understand estimating maintenance and repair project costs, coordinating with external contractors and agencies to ensure work to completion and meets safety and regulatory standards. Must have an understanding and be comfortable with managing site Projects. Strong communication skills, leadership ability, and the capacity to read and write in English are required. Candidates must be physically able to lift up to 20 kg from floor to waist and work both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions. Preferred three to five years of supervisory experience in hospital maintenance or a comparable facility environment is required. Preferred Alberta Trade certification or ABSA Building Operator fourth class. Supporting AIW's and LEAN process.

Preferred Qualifications:

Must be comfortable providing onboarding training, mentorship while guidance the FM&E team. Must have strong organization skills, ability to work within a fast workplace environment. Must understand and follow infection prevention and control procedures, (ICRA). Strong knowledge and comfortable working in sensitive areas such as patient care units, isolation rooms, and laboratories.
