Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Health Economics Program Lead, Cancer Research & Business Partnerships, the Health Economics Lead will be responsible for integrating cost and outcomes data and conducting operational analyses from an economic perspective to support demonstration projects under the Precision Analytics Program using the comprehensive Cancer data environment. In support of the Alberta Strategic Plan for Cancer to 2036 and Cancer Care Alberta’s (CCA) value framework, the Lead Health Economist will support value-based decision making by applying health economic approaches to operational impact demonstration projects and developing decision support tools, as well as assessing value by: Integrating patient cost and outcome data sets into existing Cancer Care Alberta data systems. Developing models to simulate or forecast the clinical, operational and/or economic impacts of the demonstration projects (which will have a healthcare technology or operational change focus). Contributing to CCA prioritization and implementation of sound policies and operational programs by providing expertise in costing and operational impact assessment. Preparing high-quality project reports, briefs and presentations of findings, including the creation of graphical output This position will identify and integrate health economic data into the existing comprehensive Cancer data environment. They will also define any gaps in data required to support this work and develop a strategy to augment existing data. Using these data and in collaboration with the Precision Analytics team, this position will ensure appropriate assessment and evaluation of CCA Precision Analytics demonstration projects from a costing, health economics, and value perspective.

40% Building data infrastructure needed for economic evaluation: Identification and integration of key patient experience/outcome data to existing data systems Support the development and integration of provincial costing models for cancer treatment and care Support the Health Economics Program Lead in bringing in new forms of costing data to combine with key patient experience/outcome data Developing templates for performance reporting from an economic perspective 40% Conduct Health Economic and Operational Analyses: Supporting CCA Precision Analytics demonstration projects from an economic perspective (costs and outcomes). This may include costing, cost/benefit, cost-effectiveness, and budget impact analyses. Ensure methodological rigour, quality, and compliance across all economic deliverables Research, develop and apply business tools that enhance CCA capacity in the use of clinical data to drive evidence-based decision making and operational improvements. Support the development of appropriate proxy data when required data is not available. Prepare reports, publications, briefing notes, and comprehensive value assessments (business cases) Perform risk assessment and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure deliverables occur on time and issues/risks are escalated appropriately to project sponsors. Work independently but seek guidance for complex situations 20% Relationship & Change Management: Engage and collaborate with key stakeholders (i.e. operations, leadership, and financial teams) to ensure health economic initiatives are well supported and align with existing processes/policies Identifies key risks, develops mitigating strategies, and escalates risk as appropriate. Assist with grant reporting back to key project sponsors.
