Your Opportunity:
The Technical Lead is a key leadership role in Facilities Maintenance & Engineering and reports directly to the Director, Facilities Maintenance & Engineering. This position is responsible and accountable for providing the direction, leadership and organization over the activities of the organization of Technical Support within FME in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services. These activities also will include the integration of various resources to carry out these activities. The position is also responsible and accountable for making key decisions and having direct leadership responsibility for establishing and contributing to the achievement of the goals of Facilities Maintenance & Engineering.
Description:
The Technical Lead is also responsible for: Technical and/or engineering support to Facilities Maintenance & Engineering staff and leadership. Responsible for highly technical analysis and modeling of complex physical plant systems. Identify energy efficiency opportunities and operational enhancements to all physical plant and building control systems. Participate in major capital projects programs in design development, construction and commissioning stages. Ensures that the facilities are forwarded relevant system/vendor documentation and drawings. Manages a master technical library of consultant reports, engineering studies, and internal technical documentation. Reviews relevant FME consultant reports and engineering studies. Provides a leadership role with respect to building conditions assessments and surveys. Collaborates with Project Management in the process of commissioning of all capital projects. Develops commissioning documentation standards, and reviews turnover documentation and procedures. Coordinates all Infrastructure Maintenance Program (IMP) requests, in collaboration with Capital Processes and Government Intervention, and provides recommendations for extensive infrastructure upgrades. Is accountable and responsible for the development of building recommissioning strategies and their execution. Is accountable and responsible to assist facility managers in matters relating to the efficient use of utility resources including gas, power, and water.

Bachelor Degree in a related field or a combination of Trade certification in a major building trade and previous related experience or other recognized designations or equivalencies Ten (10) years of facility operations experience and five (5) years of project management experience, preferably in an acute care facility of significant size, complexity and diversity

In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Progressive leadership experience in an engineering or technical environment, including 5 years' experience in a management role in related operations Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within an organization and ideally managing within a unionized sector. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire other to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to plan, organize and manage short- and long-term plans and projects and deliver customer-focused results. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
10 years experience in a healthcare facility in a senior role responsible for the operations and maintenance of an acute care facility of significant size, coupled with extensive project work. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered.
