Laboratory Assistant II
Your Opportunity:
The Division of Experimental Oncology within the Cancer Research & Business Partnerships portfolio conducts research into the biological mechanisms that drive cancer using a broad range of approaches, including molecular and cellular biology, animal models, patient-centered clinical trials, translational and educational research, and multicenter randomized clinical trials. Under the day-to-day supervision of the Experimental Oncology Laboratory Manager, the Lab Assistant II supports research laboratories by preparing shared solutions and media; picking up, washing, and sterilizing glassware and consumables; assisting with the disposal of hazardous waste; maintaining laboratory spaces and equipment; assisting with the delivery of liquid nitrogen and other gases; maintaining documentation and relevant information in accordance with applicable local and national regulations; and performing other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Manager. Please note that this position is based in a research laboratory environment and is not part of a clinical laboratory setting.
Description:
As a Laboratory Assistant II, you will provide high quality service to clients of the clinical laboratory in an effective, efficient and safe manner. You will be responsible for a variety of laboratory functions including procurement, handling, processing, dispatching and testing of specimens, performing procedures and reporting results. Additionally, you will support the orientation/teaching of new staff, co-workers and external clients, and perform and review quality control evaluations as well as perform and record equipment maintenance.

Completion of an accredited Medical Laboratory Assistant training program.
Additional Required Qualifications:Ability to perform physically demanding and repetitive tasks, including lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying loads of up to 40 pounds. Should be able to safely operate laboratory equipment, including glass washers and autoclaves, and perform light but highly repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently. Previous work experience in a research laboratory setting is required. Completion of a BSc. in Biology or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience working in microscopy and/or flow cytometry would be an asset.
