As a valued member of the provincial Database Services team of 20 DBAs, the Senior CyberSecurity Database Administrator helps protect the organization’s IRIS, Oracle and SQL database environments from cyber threats, working closely with the DBAs and collaborating with various application, architecture and technical teams. This role focuses on implementing and maintaining cybersecurity controls, responding to security incidents, and supporting security enhancements for the enterprise-class database ecosystem.

Description:

The Database CyberSecurity Administrator helps protect the organization’s IRIS, Oracle and SQL database environments from cyber threats, working closely with the 20 members of Database Services and collaborating with various application, architecture and technical teams. This role focuses on implementing and maintaining cybersecurity controls, responding to security incidents, and supporting security enhancements for the enterprise-class database ecosystem. Key Responsibilities: Implement database cybersecurity initiatives and enhancements in alignment with Database Services and TIS Roadmaps. Conduct vulnerability assessments for Database Services. Assisting in identifying, prioritizing, and remediating security risks. Analyze threat intelligence to identify emerging threats and vulnerabilities affecting database ecosystem. Coordinate patching activities and implement security updates twice yearly and for emergency patches. Manage endpoint security for databases, aligning with the functionality provided by the soon-to-be purchased product that was selected in the recent RFP. Monitor security events and logs to detect and respond to potential security issues. Support security incident investigations. Develop and maintain a business continuity plan for database infrastructure. There is evening and weekend work and on call support.

Required Qualifications:

Post-secondary degree or diploma in computer science or related field. 10 or more years of DBA experience using either MSSQL or Oracle. Experience with protecting databases by mitigating cybersecurity risks. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Ability to work with multi-disciplinary teams within set project schedules and forge a relationship by communicating effectively with different stakeholders. Strong written and verbal communication skills.


Additional Required Qualifications:

A combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.


Preferred Qualifications:

Cybersecurity certification. Knowledge of project management concepts.
