Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Team Lead, Data Archiving and Governance, IT Corporate Services, the IT Analyst II - Data Archiving Business Analyst will be part of an innovative team that uses best practices to support corporate data management service within AHS. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a team that works closely with Alberta Health Services (AHS) business leaders, end users, IT analysts, and project leads to archive legacy data, resolve data quality issues, manage data assets, implement best data practices and improve data processes to increase business effectiveness and efficiency. This position will perform business analysis to facilitate archiving of data with the Hadoop based solution called Solix Common Data Platform to archive data. You will also be responsible for meeting with business for determining requirements for data archival and associated reporting, querying data to get familiar and determine data quality, develop data access, reporting and retention requirements, and supporting users for data query from the Hadoop based system. The position requires critical-thinking skills, project management skills, an understanding of current business processes, knowledge of best practices, as well as strong communication skills. The successful candidate will work independently and with minimum guidance to resolve complex business issues.


As an IT Analyst II, you will provide technical support related to information technology applications either directly to users of the systems or to service delivery functions. You will ensure reliable operations of information systems, resolve complex technical problems, find solutions to customer needs, and lead projects and program initiatives. You will be responsible for more advanced application, telecom or technology support duties. You will investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex problems that have typically been escalated several levels before assignment to this position, and will translate business requirements into technical requirements for a solution and recommend a potential approach to the vendor. You will analyse the solution provided to ensure that it fits both technical requirements and business needs. You will also spend time on project or initiative leadership and delivery.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technology or equivalent.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Strong Business Analysis Skills. Experience in the development of business requirements, technical design and solution development. A minimum of one (1) year experience in data management or data governance. A minimum if one (1) year supporting customers using Business Analyst skills for client consultations. An understanding of data and data relationships in the context of system integration points. Design and coordination of development, testing, implementation and maintenance of technical corporate solutions. Provide input into solutions based on best practices. Strong knowledge of project lifecycle, management and associated best practices. A strong team player who puts team success before their own. The ability to actively build and maintain positive client relationships. Ability to work with business areas to understand business requirements and develop solutions. The ability to research business problems and create solutions that address these business problems. Ability to produce documentation in the English language that is technically and grammatically correct, concise, clear, accurate, and of an appropriate readability to the intended audience. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Good critical thinking and analytical abilities. Working knowledge of Hadoop/ Cloudera. Training will be provided for these if required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Tableau. Strong SQL skill set. Experience working with MySQL, Oracle or SQL Server database. Business acumen and the ability to explain/translate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Experience with ETL.
