Your Opportunity:

The Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund (ACPLF) is seeking an Indigenous Lead – Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund to join our innovative team. The Indigenous Lead plays a key leadership role in support of the prevention and screening goals of the ACPLF to plan, develop, oversee and evaluate projects in close collaboration and with insight and guidance from Indigenous partners and communities. You will work as a dyad with the Indigenous Scientist- Community to provide vision, leadership and direction to the team to ensure strategic and business goals are achieved. ACPLF aims to motivate, influence and enable Albertans, including those who are vulnerable to poorer health outcomes, to reduce their cancer risk and increase appropriate use of cancer screening. This is achieved through working with community partners, workplaces, health services, and other key stakeholders. The Lead will also: work collaboratively with Integration and Scientist Leads to determine ways to adapt projects and interventions to meet the needs of Indigenous communities. All Non-Union Exempt positions are being reviewed for possible inclusion in the AUPE General Support Services bargaining unit. If this position is impacted, the incumbent will be notified accordingly.


Provide management support, guidance, and mentorship to the research and implementation teams who work on projects with Indigenous communities (including position management, etc.). Contribute to ACPLF strategic planning and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Work in close alignment with the AHS Indigenous Health Program leaders and team and with other Indigenous leaders.

Required Qualifications:

A minimum of a Master’s or research based degree in a health promotion or population health related field (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered). The incumbent will have experience engaging and working with First Nation, Metis and Inuit people, communities and leaders.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 5 years direct experience working with First Nation, Metis and/or Inuit people & communities. Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a large health-focused organization in evaluation, knowledge translation, and/or data management. Solid understanding of research, and health innovation environments. Experience managing a project grant from start to finish. Ability to manage a number of projects concurrently and to successfully manage competing issues and meet deadlines. Demonstrated ability to foster and sustain relationships and partnerships and a culture of collaboration with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders particularly in the Indigenous community. Extensive knowledge of the health system. Demonstrated working knowledge of cancer and chronic disease prevention, population and public health, health equity, quality improvement, applied research methods, systematic reviews and critical appraisal skills. Team leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Knowledge and experience in logical frame/logic model development. Experience managing physical and human resources and related financial / statistical information. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues.

Preferred Qualifications:

Certification in Change Management.
