Your Opportunity:

The Holy Cross Phase II site is located in the Mission district in Calgary, nestled between the Elbow River and the bustling 4th street retail area. As the Indigenous Coordinator - Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund, you will have an integral role in achieving the objectives of the Alberta Cancer Prevention Legacy Fund strategic framework, responsible for ensuring that projects achieve the maximum impact in supporting cancer prevention and improving the health of First Nation, Métis and Inuit Albertans. You will be working within a dynamic multidisciplinary team, working closely with the Indigenous Scientist and Indigenous Integration Lead in leading and/or supporting multiple projects across ACPLF with a special focus on improved cancer prevention and screening in First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities. You will be coordinating and facilitating collaboration between Alberta Health Services, the Indigenous Health Program, and First Nation, Metis and Inuit partners, organizations and communities in the development, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based, culturally safe and appropriate cancer prevention and screening projects that are designed to meet the needs of First Nation, Métis and Inuit people and communities. To be successful as the Indigenous Coordinator, you will possess an adaptive communication style, stronger interpersonal skills and a strong ability to facilitate conversations with internal and external stakeholders, including advisory/working groups and steering committees. In addition, you will be able to apply your education and demonstrate your understanding of Indigenous people, their health, intergenerational trauma, reconciliation and mental health.

Description:

As the Indigenous Coordinator, you will work with a high degree of independence under the direction of the Indigenous Integration Lead and Indigenous Scientist to plan and implement projects that have a focus on First Nation, Métis and Inuit people. These include but are not limited to developing project charters, work plans, estimating resource requirements and leading the coordination for project implementation and the transitioning of projects into operations. You will be responsible for implementing and overseeing key project activities, such as coordinating work with project partners and stakeholders, planning important meetings, developing meeting materials and planning and implementing activities that take place within communities. The Indigenous Coordinator identifies and navigates promptly through issues that arise throughout community projects to ensure a mitigation strategy is applied to minimize delays in project implementation. You will get to develop new and innovative concepts, strategies, and processes that address community stream goals and objectives with a focus on Indigenous health. As the Indigenous Coordinator, you will contribute to the strategic direction of First Nation, Metis and Inuit focused work. You will contribute to the development of special reports, publications and knowledge translation products. Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders is integral to this role. You will work with stakeholders to problem-solve strategies, implement best-practice approaches and ensure consensus from partners and stakeholders. As the Indigenous Coordinator, you will facilitate project advisory/working group meetings and activities to achieve project objectives as well as support and coordinate community engagement activities with First Nation, Métis and Inuit communities

Required Qualifications:

Masters level (or equivalent) in Public Health, Population Health, Health Promotion or related area is preferred. A minimum of five years demonstrated experience working with Indigenous people, communities and organizations (i.e., First Nations, Métis Settlements, urban Indigenous agencies and organizations).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Experience with facilitation. Experience working with Indigenous, First nations and/or Métis communities. Experience with working with internal and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Experience with Alberta Health Services processes is a definite asset. Knowledge of health promotion and disease prevention, including strategies and best practice evidence related to cancer prevention is desired. Leadership experience, including developing staff/team.
