Required Qualifications:

Required Qualifications: Masters level (or equivalent) in Public Health, Population Health, Health Promotion or related area; a combination of education and work experience equivalent may be considered. A minimum of five years demonstrated experience working with Indigenous Peoples, communities and organizations (i.e., First Nations, Metis Settlements, urban Indigenous agencies and organizations).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Additional Required Qualifications: Experience and working knowledge of Indigenous governance structure and processes, programming and projects in Indigenous communities and extensive knowledge of jurisdictions and policies. Works with supervisors in the areas of engagement, relationship building and respectful communications with our Indigenous partners Important aspects of this knowledge may include: awareness of Indigenous community formal/informal leadership and governance structures and processes, a well-developed understanding of Indigenous cultures and the diversity within community and community cultures, an awareness of community languages and communication styles, a minimum of a post-secondary degree in a health field with a business related background i.e., Public Health Administration. Experience in research initiatives and/or a good understanding of ethics and process related to research is essential. An understanding of needs assessment, intergenerational trauma, Indigenous cultures. Has successfully worked as a member of a team and used team building approaches for establishing and maintaining trusting relationships with community leadership, staff and members, such as negotiation and conflict resolution strategies. A strong desire to engage in a culturally safe and appropriate fashion.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in community-level needs assessments and priority setting is preferred. Knowledge and awareness of chronic disease management, including work experience in cancer prevention and screening is considered a strong asset. Knowledge of First Nation, Métis and Inuit people, health philosophies and cultural beliefs and practices is an asset. Awareness of diversity in these communities is important to successfully work in these settings.
