Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting opportunity to support the Person Identity Management (PIM) team within the Health Information Management portfolio. Under the direction of the Provincial PIM Supervisor and Manager, the Health Information Management Professional – PIM Specialist serves as a key point of contact for the coordination and remediation of person identity issues, including adoption, global person-level masking, demographic and encounter remediation, and other PIM processes. This work spans multiple systems, including Admission, Discharge, Transfer (ADT) and Clinical Information Systems (CIS), AHS Client Registry (CR), Primary and Preventative Health Services provincial Client Registry repositories, and the Alberta Netcare Portal. The PIM Specialist is responsible for conducting quality assurance audits of remediation completed by provincial PIM Analysts and ensuring accuracy and integrity of data submitted to provincial repositories. The role involves investigating complex identity issues, documenting findings, and providing clear, timely communication and follow-up related to PIM remediation activities impacting the electronic health record. In addition, this position supports the identification, investigation, and reporting of privacy breaches and reportable incidents where clinical information has been incorrectly associated to a patient record. The PIM Specialist also represents the Person Identity Management team on provincial working groups and contributes to the development of strategies and process improvements aimed at strengthening data quality and system integrity across the healthcare continuum. Strong critical thinking, risk assessment, prioritization, communication, and collaboration skills are essential for success in this role. Description:

As a Health Information Management Professional I, you will be responsible for coding and abstracting data from clinical records, release of information and/or data quality assurance. In accordance with AHS procedures and the Health Information Act, you will gather, retrieve, collate, code, design, analyze, interpret clinical and demographic data and perform statistical reporting and regular data quality reviews for patient records.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum of five (5) years’ experience within the past seven (7) years in Data Collection, Access & Disclosure, or other data integrity–focused roles in healthcare. Strong preference for candidates with a Data Collection background. Graduation from a recognized Health Information Management (HIM) diploma or degree accredited by CHIMA is required. Advanced experience with integrated clinical information systems, including Connect Care (Epic ADT), Alberta Netcare Portal and Person Directory, Health Shared Services Client Registry, and related identity management systems. Strong understanding of data flow, data integrity, and system interdependencies. Excellent verbal and written communication, advanced Microsoft Office 365 skills, and other clinical/business tools. Ability to analyze complex information, assess risk, make sound decisions, and work independently or collaboratively in a fast-paced environment. Attention to detail, problem-solving, and initiative in workflow/process improvements required. Experience in mentoring, coaching, and quality monitoring is an asset. Skill testing required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience participating in provincial working groups, system implementations, or workflow redesign initiatives. Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro for document management, redaction, and audit support. Knowledge of ServiceNow, HIM Service Portals, and document management or capture technologies.
