Health Information Management is currently seeking a Health Information Management Professional to join our Access & Disclosure (A&D) team. The Access and Disclosure (A&D) Specialist plays a vital role within the Health Information Management (HIM) department, responsible for processing requests for health information ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of health information released in compliance with the Health Information Act (HIA).   Reporting to the A&D Supervisor, the A&D Specialist is responsible for processing complex patient, complex Health Care Provider (HCP) and third-party requests for health information in alignment with applicable Alberta legislation, organizational policies and provincial A&D standards.   You bring in-depth knowledge of the HIA and apply it with professionalism and sound judgment. You will support the timely and efficient delivery of A&D services, meeting provincial productivity standards while upholding the highest levels of accuracy and quality. Description:

As a Health Information Management Professional I, you will be responsible for coding and abstracting data from clinical records, release of information and/or data quality assurance. In accordance with AHS procedures and the Health Information Act, you will gather, retrieve, collate, code, design, analyze, interpret clinical and demographic data and perform statistical reporting and regular data quality reviews for patient records.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Minimum 1 year experience working in an HIM release of information department within a complex health care environment. Proficiency in keyboarding is required demonstrating a minimum speed of 45 words per minute (testing required). Knowledge of Health Information Act demonstrated by achieving a score of 80% or higher on a proficiency assessment. . Fundamental understanding of health information privacy, access, and disclosure practices ensures your success in this role. Candidates must demonstrate strong English language skills in reading, writing, comprehension, and oral communication. Proficiency with Connect Care’s Release of Information (ROI) module is required. You are comfortable navigating electronic medical records and clinical systems. You are proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, MS Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

We’re seeking a candidate with strong eHealth literacy, secure handling of health information, and experience navigating and interpreting provincial and federal legislation. Must be organized, analytical, self-motivated, and skilled in decision-making and time management.
