Your Opportunity:

The Health Information Management Professional is responsible for extracting clinical information from patient care records to support the cancer diagnosis pathways and other initiatives. This position will play a key role in current state and prospective data collection of key metrics to support the implementation and evaluation of new provincial cancer diagnosis pathways. This will include reviewing and investigating patient records to extract determined data points necessary for pathway evaluation and provide basic statistical analysis of collected data. The position will work directly with the Senior Project Manager. The successful incumbent will be detail-oriented, excel in a clinical project team environment and have a good understanding of the cancer data they are extracting. Duties include design/creation of MS Access databases along with supporting data dictionaries ensuring the appropriate metrics for pathway evaluation are collected, chart review gathering pathway specific information from the patient health record, interpreting clinical and demographic data related to procedures and events along the diagnosis trajectory. This position is responsible for reviewing patient records to categorize diagnoses and interventions, collecting, reporting of reviewed findings, and securely maintaining patient data during and post pathway development. Extracting a defined list of elements from patient charts, the position will collect site and provincial cancer diagnosis pathway data using NetCare and Connect Care to assist with data entry into approved clinical quality measurement tools.

Description:

As a Health Information Management Professional I, you will be responsible for coding and abstracting data from clinical records, release of information and/or data quality assurance. In accordance with AHS procedures and the Health Information Act, you will gather, retrieve, collate, code, design, analyze, interpret clinical and demographic data and perform statistical reporting and regular data quality reviews for patient records.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).
