Required Qualifications:

Completion of diploma from an accredited Health Information Management Professional (HIMP) program. Active or eligible for registration with the Canadian Health Information Management Association (CHIMA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Maintain credentials with the Canadian College of Health Information Management and be a certified active member of the Canadian Health Information Management Association. Experience in coding and abstracting using the current classification systems and managing productivity standards for timely submission to MACAR is required. A coding test will be administered during the interview process. Direct experience and knowledge with health record information systems/processes, including the Meditech Abstracting system, Folio, and 3M encoder required. Will be required to code for other sites as part of the remote coding program. May be required to perform release of information for additional sites. Knowledge of access and disclosure rules in keeping with the Health Information Act of Alberta and the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act of Alberta is required. Must possess exceptional interpersonal skills and be able to read, write, speak and communicate effectively using the English language. Must be a strong team player with the ability to work independently. Must possess strong computer skills and proficiency in various software programs (Microsoft Office suite and Microsoft Outlook). Must have a proven record of maintaining privacy and confidentiality with sensitive information and situations. An excellent attendance record, reliability, and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment references.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to maintain poise under pressure, prioritize, and organize workload in a fast paced environment. Previous registration, switchboard and basic accounting knowledge preferred.
