Health Care Aide - Intensive Care Unit
Your Opportunity:
The Royal Alexandra Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a high acuity unit with 29 beds. The Health Care Aide within the ICU participates in the delivery of quality patient care by performing services necessary for the physical and emotional wellbeing and comfort of the patients. The Unit Manager supervises the position and other team members provide general direction for specified duties. The incumbent will primarily participate in the mobilization, physical development and personal care of ventilated and non-ventilated patients while working collaboratively with the nurses, physiotherapy and occupational therapy departments. The incumbent also participates in transportation of patients and supplies within the hospital, when necessary, and replenishing of health care supplies within the ICU
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals.

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:Preference will be given to applicants with at least one year of recent experience within the Medicine, Surgery or Critical Care Programs. Training on Connect Care and familiarity with computers, hospital settings, and ventilated patients are assets. Experience working with diverse communities, groups and/or organizations (i.e. ethno-cultural, equity-setting, racialized, faith-based, 2S LGBTQI+, vulnerable, marginalized, persons with disabilities, and persons across all age groups, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:Completion of a recognized Health Care Aide Course (or equivalent), Medical Terminology course and CPR (BCLS - HCP) are required. Must have physical capability of performing all aspects of the role
