The amazing Home Care team in St. Paul has an opening for a Health Care Aide (HCA). This role is critical to Home Care as you provide care and build relationships with your clients. Your critical thinking skills will be utilized as you are the person that will need to notice changes in your clients and if additional care is required. You will work to the full capacity of an HCA and grow your skills as you work independently and become an advocate for the client. You are a compassionate and empathetic individual as you work in this interesting, challenging, and continually changing field, with some complex patients who require your support. The Health Care Aide functions as a member of the team providing healthcare services for clients and family members in their home environment. St. Paul is an active community with lots to offer with multiple recreation facilities and 14 lakes with numerous campgrounds nearby. Located within Alberta’s Lake country on the traditional lands of Treaty 6, and the beautiful lands of the Metis. St. Paul was founded in 1896 as a Metis colony. Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team providing personal assistance including supporting activities of daily living and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this position you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities assisting nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs, assisting with organized activities or programs and observing and reporting on a patient's mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under a regulated health professional you will be assisting in the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors, and maintaining effective communication with patients and health professionals.

Completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire and active directory status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrolment from the Directory at https://www.albertahcadirectory.com/health-care-aides/confirmation/. Nursing students currently enrolled in an approved Alberta nursing program who have successfully completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum; and are either in their 1st year of practical nursing program; or 2nd year of baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Must attest to this compliance and provide proof of qualification.
Additional Required Qualifications:Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS HCP). Communication and assessment skills. The ability to apply health and safety principles in delivering care to clients in the community, to work effectively and cooperatively with others and to set priorities by organizing and scheduling work-related activities is essential. The successful candidate will work independently in clients' homes, which could include congregate settings, single family dwellings, condos and/or walk-up apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions), as well as be able to lift and carry medical bags, and or equipment which weigh approximately 25-30 Ibs. As this is a Home Care role you will need to have a valid non-GDL Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals. Successful completion of a Medication Assistance Program (MAP).
