Your Opportunity:

Within the Home Care Interdisciplinary team, the Health Care Aide – Home Care is responsible for providing personal care, medication assistance and assisting with activities of daily living within the client’s authorized plan of care. Clients and their families are assisted to maximize their optimum level of independence. Responsibilities: Provides personal care and assists with activities of daily living as outlined in the care plan, including but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, bathing, grooming, transferring, mobilizing, and nail care. Provides emotional support by being a good listener, being supportive, being friendly and sincere, and interacting in a positive and optimistic manner. Respite care to relieve family caregivers including but not limited to companionship, recreational activities, and supervision. Performs health care duties as authorized on the client’s plan of care including simple dressings, catheter care, ostomy care, exercises for range of movement and strengthening. Provides Medication Assistance as authorized on the client’s plan of care following Medication Assistance Program protocols. Records and reports while maintaining confidentiality. Contributes by: Participating in client conferences. Participating in continued quality improvement initiatives. Demonstrating positive working relationships. Communicates effectively verbally/written. Contributes to a safe working environment by: Ensures safety. Utilizing proper safety precautions in the provision of client care. Familiar with and adhering to safety policies and procedures. Participates in mandatory and other in-services. In addition to a competitive rate of pay, AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.


As a Health Care Aide (HCA) - Nursing Attendant, you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients , families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Must meet one of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirements: Certified - certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Substantially Equivalent - an educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the approved Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Deemed Competent - assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool. Evidence required upon hire; or candidate would be required to register for a HCA course from a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum within 155 hours or 6 weeks (whichever comes first), and successfully complete the course within 12 month timeline from date of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Current BLS. Proof of business insurance.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous Health Care Aide experience an asset, Home Care experience preferred. Ability to work effectively as part of a team. Ability to understand and follow established policies and procedures. Ability to relate to clients and families with respect and dignity in a client centered way. Ability to safely accomplish the physical and emotional demands of the provision of client care. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Evidence of patience, sound judgment and compassion.
