Required Qualifications:

Must meet one of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirements: Certified - certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Substantially Equivalent - an educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the approved Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Deemed Competent - assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool. Evidence required upon hire; or candidate would be required to register for a HCA course from a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum within 155 hours or 6 weeks (whichever comes first), and successfully complete the course within 12 month timeline from date of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Successful completion of other training programs as required within the role of the position. Knowledge and understanding of the HCA scope of practice. Depth and breadth of knowledge reflective of SLW education and experience. Basic personal care procedures. Knowledge and understanding of standards and protocols specific to the Accommodations Standards. Knowledge of roles and responsibilities in meeting Continuing Care Health Services and Accommodations Standards. Understanding of the principles of person centered care. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain caring relationships with clients and families that demonstrate dignity and respect. Demonstrated command of the English language, both verbally and written. Excellent active listening skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

Supportive Pathways training an asset. Previous Health Care Aide experience an asset. Related experience working with the elderly or physically challenged individuals an asset.
