Your Opportunity:

Under the direction and supervision of a regulated healthcare professional and working within the Interdisciplinary team, the Supportive Living Worker (SLW) provides direct care to assist in the activities of daily living, comfort and safety of the client, and provides indirect services to support the overall provision of care in their assigned area. The Health Care Aide - Assisted Living Worker is a multi-skilled working providing assistance in such areas as social, recreation, meal preparation and light housekeeping. The Supportive Living Worker embraces the philosophy of person centered care, demonstrating the principles of the philosophy established within AHS policies and procedures and established standards. The SLW recognizes that each client has unique values and personal history and that each person has an equal right to dignity, respect, and to participate fully in their environment. The SLW is responsible for creating partnerships and relationships with clients, families and coworkers that will lead to the best outcomes and enhance quality of life. The SLW accepts responsibility for continuing competency through ongoing development including participation in education programs and continuous quality improvement activities. Minimum knowledge and skill requirements for SLWs are acquired through education based on the Alberta Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides or equivalent. The SLW Adheres to Alberta Health Services (AHS) policies, procedures and guidelines. The SLW is responsible and accountable for the assigned tasks and support functions and for understanding and reporting tasks and functions he/she is unable to perform. You are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term or long term assistance.

As a Health Care Aide (HCA) - Nursing Attendant, you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients , families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Must meet one of the Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirements: Certified - certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Substantially Equivalent - an educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the approved Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum. Evidence required upon hire; or Deemed Competent - assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool. Evidence required upon hire; or candidate would be required to register for a HCA course from a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum within 155 hours or 6 weeks (whichever comes first), and successfully complete the course within 12 month timeline from date of hire.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Successful completion of other training programs as required within the role of the position. Knowledge and understanding of the HCA scope of practice. Depth and breadth of knowledge reflective of SLW education and experience. Basic personal care procedures. Knowledge and understanding of standards and protocols specific to the Accommodations Standards. Knowledge of roles and responsibilities in meeting Continuing Care Health Services and Accommodations Standards. Understanding of the principles of person centered care. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain caring relationships with clients and families that demonstrate dignity and respect. Demonstrated command of the English language, both verbally and written. Excellent active listening skills. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with clients.

Preferred Qualifications:

Supportive Pathways training an asset. Previous Health Care Aide experience an asset. Related experience working with the elderly or physically challenged individuals an asset.
