The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH Adult Operative Services portfolio functions within a Level 1 Trauma Center providing surgical access to various specialties including, Neurosurgery, OHNS, Urology, General Surgery, Ortho Trauma, Plastics, Burns, Spine, iMRI, and Solid Organ Transplant Services. The Operative Services Portfolio encompasses the Adult Pre-Admission Clinic, Short Stay Surgery Unit, Operative Theatres, and Post Anesthetic Care Unit. This opportunity will provide the successful incumbent with access to working within the Short Stay Surgery Unit. The HCA reports to the manager(s) of the Level III Adult OR and will carry out duties on the Adult Post Anesthetic Care Unit, or as directed by Unit Manager. Duties will include but are not limited to the following: Assisting with pre/post-operative care Transporting patients, supplies, specimens, and equipment Obtaining vital signs and blood glucose monitoring checks Assisting with lifting, and transferring patients Gathering, maintaining, cleaning supplies/equipment Cleaning/tidying of unit Other duties to assist with operational needs of portfolio
Description:
As a Health Care Aide (HCA), you will work as a collaborative member of the multidisciplinary team, providing personal assistance by supporting activities of daily living and delivering support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short term assistance or ongoing support, in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. In this role, you will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers across the continuum of care in home, community, and health care facilities. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation, and safety needs; assist with organized activities or programs; and observe and report on patients' mood, health, and wellbeing. Working under the supervision of a regulated health professional, you will assist in maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while supporting effective communication with patients and health care professionals. PLEASE NOTE: Until a new hire provides proof of HCA certification, they will be paid at the uncertified pay grade in accordance with the AUPE AUX Collective Agreement.

Active or eligible for registration or practice permit with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA) as a Health Care Aide, along with proof of education or completion of Health Care Aide Certificate within 18 months of hire.
Additional Required Qualifications:Active registration with the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory Current BCLS-HCP registration Ability to work within a team environment to ensure work is completed quickly and efficiently with minimal supervision Must be able to communicate effectively with every member of the team Must be reliable and dependable Able to work in a fast-paced environment with patients of varying mobility/acuity Must be capable of performing heavy duties requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling all patients with varying mobility Must be able to work in a physically demanding environment – able to stand for long periods and walk throughout the day
