- As a condition of employment at AHS, you must be enrolled in the Government of Alberta-Health Care Aide Directory and provide evidence of your enrollment at time of hire and annually thereafter. For more information on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory, please visit: www.albertahcadirectory.com. - In addition, you must meet one of the following Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirement and provide evidence at time of hire: a) Certified - certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum; or b) Substantially Equivalent - an educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the approved Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum; or c) Deemed Competent - assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool.
Additional Required Qualifications:Completion of a HCA Certificate from an Accredited College/Program. The Ability to apply Health and Safety principles in delivering care to clients in the community, to work effectively and cooperatively with others and to set priorities by organizing and scheduling work-related activities is essential. A vehicle and a valid driver’s license. The successful candidate will work independently in clients’ homes, which could include single family dwellings, condominiums, and/or walk-up apartments. Therefore, the successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (home environments and weather conditions), as well as be able to lift and carrying medical bags, which weigh approximately 25-30 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:Previous Community Care and/or geriatric experience. Previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals. A Medication Assistance Certificate or prior experience in Medication Assistance.
