Your Opportunity:

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to provide quality patient care in a Long Term Care setting. The Health Care Aides/Nursing Attendants provides patient care services as an unregulated worker under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The primary duties include: performing tasks related to activities of daily living, ensuring comfort and safety of the patient. Description:

As a Health Care Aide (HCA) - Nursing Attendant, you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

- As a condition of employment at AHS, you must be enrolled in the Government of Alberta-Health Care Aide Directory and provide evidence of your enrollment at time of hire and annually thereafter. For more information on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory, please visit: www.albertahcadirectory.com. - In addition, you must meet one of the following Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirement and provide evidence at time of hire: a) Certified - certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum; or b) Substantially Equivalent - an educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the approved Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum; or c) Deemed Competent - assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Grade 12 or equivalent. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations necessary. Demonstrates effective interpersonal and communication skills within a team setting. Maintains a standard of high quality care, self-directed and motivated. Demonstrates a caring attitude towards patients and families, ability to relate to clients in a caring manner with respect and dignity. Ability to work collaboratively with team members is essential. Ability to assist with lifting, turning and transferring adult patients essential. Ability to utilize safe transferring and lifting equipment (It’s Your Move) is necessary. Good attendance as demonstrated in reference check. Ability to handle the physical demands of the position. Please Note: This position is located outside of the Calgary city limits (136 km south of Calgary).

Preferred Qualifications:

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support- Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) preferred. Graduate from or enrolled in an approved Health Care Aide program or equivalent preferred. Previous nursing attendant experience in LTC is preferred. Experience working with seniors and the cognitively impaired patients is preferred.
