Your Opportunity:

Emergency Health Services – Alberta (EHS), Ambulance Dispatch, has an exciting opportunity for a student who is currently enrolled in full time studies in Geographic Information System (GIS) or a Geography-related post-secondary program. Based at our Ambulance Dispatch Headquarters in Calgary, this is a 6-month coop position with full time day shifts. This position is an excellent way to experience working among a highly skilled and talented GIS team. Your main duties include using Esri Software to digitize, manual edit and update data into an ESRI Enterprise SDE database. You will use GIS Software to ensure the accuracy of data used by EHS field staff, who rely on this team to provide the best mapping information possible. The EHS GIS Coop Work Experience position is a vital role within our EHS Department. Your cartographic skills and knack for data accuracy allow our EHS field staff to respond promptly and efficient when Albertans are experiencing a medical emergency. Every minute matters. Description:

The GIS Work Experience Student reports to the EHS GIS Team’s Manager. This student position plays a vital role in helping the GIS Ambulance Dispatch Team deliver mapping solutions used by Emergency Health Services (EHS) to locate or route to medical events. Primary Duties, but not limited to: Editing/updating map features within an Esri enterprise-level geodatabase. Georeferencing images and digitizing map features. Reviewing tables of data to cleanup and apply data standards. This roll will require regular in-person attendance to team meetings in Calgary, AB.

Required Qualifications:

Currently registered in a full time Geographic Information System (GIS)/Geography-related post-secondary program.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The student must have strong cartographic skills, geoprocessing experience and the ability to connect and update an Esri enterprise-level geodatabase. This student must also be able to perform Georeferencing and have experience using Esri software. Strong communication and task management skills are also vital to this position. When applying, please attach a portfolio of work representing your experience in cartography and utilizing ESRI. This can be from a project that you’ve worked on.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with FME Form software or Hexagon/Intergraph technology is also considered a strong asset. Experience in government and/or emergency services is an asset.
