You can chop, mix, stir, cook, and portion food perfectly, all while following food safety best practices. Working in food services at the Big Country Hospital in Oyen means providing healthy, wholesome food to patients receiving care, while taking their allergies, medications, and health conditions into account. Alberta Health Services is currently seeking someone like you to join our Food Services team. In this role, you will prepare, portion, package, cook, and serve food according to AHS standards and procedures. You’ll also clean and sanitize dishes, equipment, tables, and serving areas to prevent the spread of germs. Under the general supervision of a Food Services Supervisor, you will use strong customer service, teamwork, and organizational skills to: prepare, handle, portion, and package food and beverages; assemble trays in the kitchen; provide patient meal delivery and pick up; safely operate and clean industrial food service equipment; adhere to safety, sanitation, and food preparation standards in accordance with AHS policies and guidelines; and complete other food service duties as assigned. As a Food Service I, you will be responsible for performing a variety of routine tasks associated with basic food preparation in accordance with AHS standards and procedures. Your typical duties may include packaging and portioning food items, preparing food according to set guidelines and menus, serving meals to patients and customers and cleaning and sanitizing equipment, dishes, tables and serving areas.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of Grade 10 or equivalent. Physically capable to lift food, supplies and equipment up to 46lbs and must be able to push/pull meal carts up to 250lbs. This position requires you to walk and stand on your feet for the duration of your shift.

Additional Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will be able to: work in a fast-paced environment with speed and accuracy; work under pressure in high stress situations; communicate effectively in English with patients, co-workers, and other hospital departments; read, write and communicate in both written and oral English; perform basic math functions to measure out food portions.

Preferred Qualifications:

Food sanitation course. WHMIS training. Basic computer skills. Customer service experience.
