Additional Required Qualifications:

Lived experience as a support person for an individual who has mental health and/or addiction illnesses is required. Must be willing to share personal experience. Knowledge of systemic issues such as poverty, unemployment, stigma, medications, and the isolation felt by individuals with serious mental health issues and their families is required. Demonstrated ability to share expertise and personal experiences in the context of empowering others and inspiring hope. High degree of self-awareness and capacity to establish appropriate boundaries in order to provide a non-judgmental, confidential and respectful environment. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with a diverse group of people with their unique perspectives and experiences. Ability to work well in a team and seek consultation when necessary must be demonstrated. Demonstrated professionalism including organizational and time management skills, flexibility, accountability, reliability and punctuality. Any current registration with the appropriate professional college/association and current Heart and Stroke Foundation BCLS Level C- Health Care Provider is required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Critical thinking skills, working knowledge on management of concurrent disorders, and mental health legislation, including Community Treatment orders, is an asset. Skills based training/educational programs that enhance ability to promote positive family relationships an asset. Knowledge of family peer support, family community support, and resources in the community. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention is an asset. Knowledge and experience with Connect Care Electronic Medical Record is an asset.
