Family Counsellor
Your Opportunity:
Under the direction of the Manager, Calgary Eating Disorder Program, and in close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, the Family Counsellor provides comprehensive assessment, treatment, and case management for clients experiencing eating disorders and their families. Primary treatment modalities include family and group therapy. This position is primarily based at the Foothills Medical Centre (inpatient services) with support provided to the Richmond Road Diagnostic and Treatment Centre (outpatient services) and Alberta Children’s Hospital (day treatment services) as needed. As a valued member of the multidisciplinary team, the Family Counsellor: Maintains up-to-date knowledge of eating disorder research, standards, and best practices. Provides thorough individual and family assessments and develops collaborative treatment plans. Delivers psychoeducational and therapeutic groups for clients and families. Ensures timely, accurate clinical documentation and shares relevant information with team members. Actively participates in clinical and administrative team meetings. Contributes to program development and continuous quality improvement initiatives. The role follows a Tuesday–Friday schedule, predominantly daytime hours, with occasional flexibility for evening family sessions. The current inpatient unit is located on PCU 32 at FMC, with a planned transition to a new inpatient facility in winter 2025. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. Description:
As a Family Counsellor, you will provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up to clients and their families. You will also provide clinical focused consultation with other programs or community resources and acts as a liaison to develop and promote preventative health programs in the community. You will collaborate with other health care providers and community service providers to ensure a continuum of care in the community.

Completion of master's degree in a health related field. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.
Additional Required Qualifications:Professional association must be recognized by Alberta’s Health Profession Act (e.g. ACSW, College of Alberta Psychologists). Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated experience and excellence in family, group and individual therapy in a mental health/psychiatric setting; preferably with adolescents and young adults coping with an eating disorder. Experience working collaboratively as a member of a multidisciplinary team. Experience in family therapy and family assessment. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently. Creative, flexible, collaborative systems thinker. Knowledge about evaluation strategies and clinical measures. Strong computer skills. Strong family therapy skills essential.
Preferred Qualifications:Strong Family & Group Therapy skills. Extensive experience working within mental health with a multi-disciplinary team. Familiar with Connect Care.
