Facility Manager
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director, FM&E, RAH/GRH/ Gene Zwozdesky, the Facility Manager is a key member of the departmental leadership team alongside the other incumbent Facility Managers. The Facility Manager is accountable for leading a large and diverse team of talented tradespeople and support personnel while also managing projects, coordinating with numerous stakeholders internal and external to HSS, and managing resources in the most effective and efficient manner possible. This position will join a team of five Facility Managers at the Royal Alexandra health campus that incorporates the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and the Gene Zwozdesky Continuing Care Centre. The current vacancy encompasses the multi-trade team at the Gene Zwozdesky Centre and the Structural trades team at the Royal Alexandra Hospital, but role assignment within the campus facility manager group will vary, depending on the experience and aptitude of the successful candidate.
Description:
The Manager oversees multi-trade and office teams at the Royal Alexandra health campus – a substantial portfolio that demands exceptional time management, multi-tasking and leadership skills along with a solid understanding of building systems and operations. The Manager is accountable for a significant budget, substantial human and material resources, oversight of contractors, and the policies and practices applicable to the portfolio. The Manager will participate in relevant project commissioning and new construction design/redesign activities within the Hospital sites and may be called upon to contribute to committees and initiatives across the Edmonton Zone or provincially. Principled and ethical, the Manager will set the example by consistently demonstrating the organization’s core values and will work alongside the Director, the other managers and in-scope supervisors to sustain and enhance the concepts of safety first, teamwork and responsible stewardship of public resources. The Manager will provide coaching and mentorship to direct reports, will maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, and will be an ambassador for the RAH/GRH/Gene Zwozdesky Facilities Maintenance & Engineering Department.

A minimum of 5 years of management experience in building operations and maintenance in a hospital setting or in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development and leadership in a facility maintenance environment. Post-secondary education in engineering technology, facilities management, building systems or a related technical discipline, or a journeyman trades certification. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. In addition, the incumbent will possess a record of accomplishment in the following areas: Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, influential skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing quality services. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage human, financial and physical resources within an operating environment.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Proven ability to foster partnerships and achieve organizational goals. Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Effective leadership abilities combined with a strong commitment to operating within a team environment and the ability to motivate and inspire others to achieve common goals. Excellent analytical and decision-making skills. Ability to plan, organize and manage short- and long-term plans and projects and deliver customer focused results. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and build solid relationships with public agencies, government, committees and other partners. General knowledge of health care industry pertaining to building operations. Knowledge of applicable trade codes for a hospital environment. Knowledge of trade areas supervised. Leadership skills, including the ability to provide clear and consistent advice, counsel and instructions to all levels of professional and technical staff so that work is expedited safely, consistently and efficiently. Leadership / Management / Communication training. Previous Healthcare experience. Advanced knowledge of engineering and management methods and procedures. Good knowledge of computer applications and programs. Knowledge of institutional facility infrastructure, systems and operations. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Facilities Management Professional or equivalent designation, formal leadership training, or leadership experience in a unionized environment would be considered an asset. Infrastructure-related project management or previous or current healthcare facility maintenance experience would be considered an asset.
