Alberta Health Services (AHS) is currently seeking a senior HR professional who will provide leadership and HR expertise and advice in support of provision of HR service throughout the Edmonton and North Zones. With excellent communication and relationship-building skills, and application of strong HR practice in our innovative, dynamic and people-focused environment, this position will support leadership of a team of over 70. The Executive Director, Human Resources Business Partnerships (ED, HRBP) is a key leadership role in the Human Resources portfolio and within the broader People, Legal and Privacy team. Responsible for HRBP operations in the Edmonton and North Zones of AHS, the ED, HRBP provides leadership for a diverse team that includes directors, managers and advisors. In partnership with HR Centres of Expertise and HR Shared Services, the Executive Director will contribute to development and implementation of provincial HR services and programs. Reporting to the Senior Program Officer, HRBP, the Executive Director is pivotal to building client partnerships that provide strategic support, advice and solutions to AHS senior leaders on all workforce related matters. You will navigate complex concepts, identify and address unique HR/LR considerations, and influence others to find optimum solutions that address operational needs, ensuring consistency across the province. You will identify key challenges and opportunities and support the development of innovative and strategic approaches in ways that enable the achievement of the vision and strategic goals of AHS, including AHS’ People Strategy.

Description:

As a member of the People, Legal and Privacy leadership team, the Executive Director, HRBP provides expert human resources advice and counsel to members of the AHS executive and senior leadership team on all aspects of HR programs necessary to support and deliver services within the portfolio. You will establish and maintain positive relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders at various levels, including AHS senior leadership, HR colleagues, and partner organizations to foster a climate of cooperation and effectively deliver high quality HR programs and services within the Edmonton and North Zones. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic HR plans, project and program management as you proactively manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse HR and operational issues. You can effectively operate in a unionized environment, and ideally have previous experience managing in the healthcare or public sector. You can identify risks as well as anticipate and respond to emerging opportunities in a way that is aligned with the strategic and operational priorities of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

A Bachelor’s Degree in human resources, business, management, health administration or related area. Possesses a minimum of 10 years’ progressively complex experience in human resources, and minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior management role leading large teams in an organization of significant size, diversity, complexity, and public profile.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Proven experience in assessing, developing, articulating and implementing strategic HR plans, policy development, project and program management. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse, complex and sensitive issues. Ability to identify risks as well as to anticipate and respond to emerging problems, issues and opportunities that is aligned with the strategic and operational priorities of the organization. Possesses a demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues using strategic thinking, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Possesses exceptional communication skills and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex HR matters into practical solutions and liaise with diverse audiences, collaborating effectively with all levels of the organization. Has the ability to build solid relationships with public agencies, committees and other partners, fostering a climate of cooperation. Is comfortable with coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others.


Preferred Qualifications:

Masters’ degree preferred. CPHR or related human resources designation preferred. Previous experience managing within healthcare or the public sector preferred. Previous experience in a unionized environment in a large complex health system preferred. A labour relations background is an asset.
