Description:

Reporting to the Senior Operating Officer for the University of Alberta Hospital, Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute, and Kaye Edmonton Clinic, the Executive Director (ED) works in partnership with physician leaders to provide strategic and operational leadership for cardiac clinical teams and programs across the continuum of care. As a key member of the Senior Leadership team, the ED will be responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating strategic and operational plans, enhancing patient experience and outcomes, and ensuring alignment with organizational goals and vision. As the ED, you will also lead the effective stewardship of financial, human, and capital resources in a dynamic and complex environment, while promoting a culture of safety and continuous quality improvement for staff, physicians, volunteers, patients, and families. This encompasses twelve (12) direct reports, a portfolio of over 1,000 staff, and managing a budget of approximately $165 million annually. As a builder of high-functioning teams, you will lead transformational change by championing engagement, collaboration, and innovation at all levels within the portfolio. You will foster strong relationships with site, community, academic, and provincial partners to continuously improve and advance excellence in service delivery, quality, accessibility, and sustainable person-centered cardiac care.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate will hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a healthcare profession and possess a clinical background in acute care. A minimum of five (5) years of progressive leadership experience in a senior leadership or director level position in a comparable healthcare organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity is essential.


Additional Required Qualifications:

A successful record of achievement as an operational leader, demonstrating strategic planning and service delivery in a large and diverse organization. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Proven experience in leading and managing teams within the LEADS in a Caring Environment framework, demonstrating strength across its five domains: Lead Self, Engage Others, Achieve Results, Develop Coalitions, and Systems Transformation. Shows a clear pattern of commitment to personal and professional development, continuous learning, and quality improvement. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation, and commitment to providing long term quality services. The ability to foster internal and external partnerships to develop high-performing teams and achieve organizational goals within a large and complex organization.


Preferred Qualifications:

A graduate degree in health services leadership, business administration, or evidence of working toward completion of such a degree or certification is preferred. Canadian College of Healthcare Leaders Certified Health Executive designation or similar an asset. Experience as an Executive Director or Director leading operational zone or provincial programs is an in an acute care setting. Experience leading Cardiac Sciences programs in a comparable academic setting is also preferred.
