Your Opportunity:

The Executive Director (ED) of Surgery and Women’s Health, reports to the Senior Operating Officer (SOO) at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC). This is an exciting role that provides a senior leadership opportunity to lead a high quality, dynamic and innovative patient care team at the PLC. The incumbent is also responsible and accountable for leading the operational team in the planning, delivery and evaluation of the Surgery and Women’s Health teams, as well as site and system-based initiatives, in support of the vision, mission and business plan of Alberta Health Services and the Peter Lougheed Centre. The Executive Director will develop and maintain strong working relationships with physician partners, key stakeholders and leaders in order to provide operational leadership to and oversee all related programs and services. The ED will support and champion Patient and Family Centered Care, AHS Values and People Strategy at the site.

Description:

The EDs Major accountabilities include, but are not limited to: Leading collaboratively with their physician partners and PLC operational teams responsible for inpatient and ambulatory services related to Surgery and Women’s Health at the PLC. In collaboration with physician partners, provides direct support and expert counsel to the SOO, Facility Medical Director and Senior Management Team on all aspects of this portfolio. Provides leadership in the effective and efficient management and stewardship of human and fiscal resources. Engages and consults multiple stakeholders including patients and their families, staff, physicians, volunteers and the community as needed. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with key local and provincial colleagues, representatives, and health care stakeholders. Ensuring the operations of the PLC embrace and support zone and provincial service delivery models, priorities, values, guiding principles and vision of Alberta Health Services and the Calgary Corridor. Working in collaboration with Physician colleagues on strategic program planning, quality improvement initiatives, and service delivery implementation & evaluation. Provides leadership and promotes an environment of continuous improvement, supporting innovation, research, education, and a culture of safety for patients, staff, and physicians. Committed to continually improving health & safety performance through promotion of a strong positive culture, supporting hazard assessment, risk management, incident identification, reporting and correction, and compliance with applicable regulations, policies, and safe work practices.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate possesses a minimum of a university degree in health services; A minimum of five (5) years’ successful progressive experience in an operational leadership role in a health care organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity is required.


Additional Required Qualifications:

The incumbent will demonstrate a clear pattern of professional and personal development. Progressive senior leadership experience in a healthcare environment, including 5 - 10 years experience in a senior management role in clinical services or healthcare operations. Equivalencies of education and experience may be considered. Leadership skills, including demonstrated ability and comfort with decision making responsibilities, coaching, mentoring, & teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Proven ability to foster teamwork to achieve organizational goals within a large, diverse organization and managing within a unionized sector. Effective communicator with strong organizational skills, client focused orientation and commitment to providing long term quality services. Demonstrated commitment to Patient & Family Centred Care. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, and project /program management. Knowledge and demonstrated application of business planning, modeling concepts, and program/project management theories, principles & practices. Strategic thinker, taking into account long-term goals assessing options and implications. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources in a changing and multifaceted environment with diverse, complex/sensitive issues.


Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate degree would be preferred. Proven ability to foster partnerships and to achieve organizational goals within a large/diverse organization and managing within a unionized sector. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation amongst, and builds solid relationships with the public. Financial and analytic acumen, able to interpret information to determine priorities and performance analysis.
