Description:

Reporting to the Senior Operating Officer of the University of Alberta Hospital (UAH), inclusive of the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute (MAZ) and Kaye Edmonton Clinic (KEC), the Executive Director AKC-N, along with physician partners, is responsible for the section of the province encompassing Red Deer and north, with a mandate to provide healthcare services to people in these areas with acute or long-term kidney/renal disease. Within this large geographical area, the Executive Director oversees the operations of home and facility dialysis programs, preventative chronic disease management clinics, as well as service contracts with Nunavut and North West Territories. This role also partners with the Executive Director for AKC-S and physician leadership to standardize and optimize renal care provincially and jointly leads the operational team to advance kidney care in Alberta. Working within a dyad model with the Edmonton Zone Clinical Section Chief, the Executive Director jointly provides leadership, direction and guidance for the administration, implementation and evaluation of Site, Zone and Provincial matters, including establishment of a framework for care delivery. Program accountabilities span the continuum of care from prevention of renal disease to dialysis, from conservative care to end of life, and requires working with multiple internal and external partners to achieve operational and strategic goals. This includes developing strategic partnerships with municipalities, Indigenous groups, advocacy groups and foundations to balance complex needs related to capacity, community demands and resource availability. Working with Capital Management and Alberta Infrastructure, this role also plans and operationalizes new/renovated dialysis centres and clinics.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate possesses a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a healthcare profession and a clinical background. A minimum of five (5) years’ successful progressive experience in an operational leadership role in a health care organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity is required.

You have the ability to lead others towards a common vision and deliver on promised actions and outcomes. You have demonstrated success in developing and leading strong, high performing teams, creating a culture of engagement, collaboration, inclusion and caring with a continual focus on patients and person centered care. You have led change with and through people, creating and inspiring innovative solutions and ideas for complex and diverse issues, and service delivery. A relationship builder, you have proven success developing partnerships with internal and external stakeholders across the continuum of care and beyond, including foundations, university/colleges, public agencies and others. You have demonstrated your commitment to continuous quality improvement and learning and excel at human and fiscal resource management. Your successful record of achievement as a leader includes your demonstrated collaborative leadership skills as per the LEADS in a caring environment framework including demonstrated excellence in leading self, engaging others, developing coalitions and achieving results.


Preferred Qualifications:

Graduate degree in health services leadership, business administration, or evidence of working to completion of the same. Previous Director/Executive Director experience leading acute care programs/kidney care programs/teams is an asset.
