Required Qualifications:

A Professional Engineer (registered with APEGA) with at least 10 years of building design, construction and commissioning experience in a healthcare setting. A minimum of 10 years of related experience in progressively responsible engineering roles, specifically in the construction of complex healthcare facilities with demonstrated management, strategic and mentorship skills and abilities. Must demonstrate an ability to forge necessary relationships with internal and external stakeholders including frontline healthcare workers, planners, executive leaders, contractors and consultants. Must be able to present complex ideas, anticipate hurdles and use established expertise and credibility to build consensus and influence leadership decisions within AHS and throughout the project lifecycle. Must have a clear strategic understanding of the organization and capital management and sufficient experience in leading successful change in complex and large healthcare settings.


Additional Required Qualifications:

The Engineering Program Lead will be a highly effective communicator, with exceptional written and verbal skills. They must be able to present complex topics to a wide range of stakeholders, including AHS executive. The Engineering Program Lead must think strategically and proactively, with an ability to influence outcomes through anticipating challenges. The position will have 3 direct technical specialist reports, all of which will be expert professionals in their fields. This position will liaise with clinical and AHS operational experts (e.g. Lab, IPC, Protective Services, Fire & Life Safety officers, DI) to ensure appropriate design and development of the project. They are also involved in oversight of contracted personnel needed for the successful delivering of major capital project. Establishing goals, outcomes and schedules with contractors and consultants is a key part of the role. This role requires the successful candidate to work autonomously, provide project and discipline leadership from remote locations, be present on active construction sites year-round, and in the presence of heavy equipment. They will need to perform office activities from field locations, review partially complete and near complete installations, often demanding physical exertion and ability to climb partially complete structures and scaffold.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in commissioning complex mechanical, electrical and controls systems including total building integration testing within a complex healthcare setting.
