Director, Office of the VP and Chief Medical Officer

The office of the Vice President & Chief Medical Officer within Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking someone with these abilities to help AHS deliver on its priorities for Albertans, when and where they need it. In the role of Director, Office of the Vice President & Chief Medical Officer (Director), you will oversee the executive operations of the portfolio to achieve these priorities and help enable health care professionals to do what they do best: care for patients. As the Director you will contribute to strategic planning, issues management and compliance, and the day-to-day operations of the portfolio. This is an on-site position that can be based in any AHS site within the province of Alberta. Description:
Reporting directly to the Vice President & Chief Medical Officer (VP & CMO), the Director, Office of the Vice President & Chief Medical Officer (Director) is responsible for providing senior professional and administrative management services, ensuring smooth operations of the office. This includes oversight of two team members and monitoring of assigned budgets. The Director participates in planning and implementation of initiatives and projects, achieving the goals and objectives of Alberta Health Services and assists the VP & CMO in managing the key accountabilities of the office. The Director acts on behalf of the Vice President & Chief Medical Officer where appropriate in fulfilling the operational accountabilities of the position; is responsible in achieving the goals and objectives of the organization; communicates directly, and on behalf of the VP & CMO, with internal and external stakeholders. The Director provides services in issues management, portfolio planning, project management, stakeholder liaison, government liaison, office management, and executive support. The Director assists the Vice President & Chief Medical Officer in overseeing corporate related activities of the portfolio.

Bachelor’s Degree in Health Services Administration or Business Administration, or related field or equivalent experience. Minimum of seven (7) years’ senior management or executive management level administrative experience, preferrable in a health care environment. Experience in issues and concerns management, project management, planning and operational support.

Proven success in building and sustaining effective relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated discretion and sound judgment in handling highly confidential and sensitive information. Strong collaborative skills with a proven ability to work effectively as part of a team and alongside senior leaders and their teams. Proactive approach with the ability to anticipate needs, identify risks, and provide timely supports. Proven change management experience and capabilities in complex and evolving environments. Results-oriented mindset with a strong client and customer service focus, and a commitment to professional, positive interactions. Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across diverse audiences. Proven ability to prioritize and manage multiple competing demands within a broad scope of responsibilities. Demonstrated strong influencing, negotiation, and mediation skills to support resolution of complex issues. High level of attention to detail, organizational awareness, and professionalism.
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree and public sector or government experience are preferred.
