Your Opportunity:

The Manager, Product Quality & Safety, co-leads the Alberta Medical Device Safety Program with the Director, Clinical Engineering Centre of Expertise or designate. This is a leadership role in the CPSM Portfolio that reports to the CPSM Clinical Services Senior Lead. The Manager is responsible for directing, leading and operationalizing the performance and results of medical device safety strategies in support of the vision, mission, and business plans of Alberta Healthcare Agencies and Corporations (HSS, AHS, ACA, ALC PCA and Recovery Alberta). The role fosters innovative concepts and procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness, and in particular, to improve medical device-related safety across the Alberta healthcare continuum of care.

Description:

The position is recognized as a Subject Matter Expert in medical device safety and maintains and applies a unique body of knowledge about the medical devices industry. The Manager seeks out internal and external expertise and establishes and maintains positive relationships with key local, provincial and national stakeholders, including government departments and officials, industry leaders, and medical device regulators. The position monitors global medical device industry, regulatory, supply, and safety trends and issues to proactively identify medical device-related problems and risks with potential or actual impact to Alberta Healthcare Agencies and Corporations, with the ultimate aim to prevent or reduce unintended medical device-related harm to minimize unintended harm to patients and personnel . The role directs the resolution of business, operational and/or organizational problems related to medical device safety, which can be unique, complex, and wide-ranging. The role provides direct support and expert counsel to Operational, Patient Safety, and Support Services Senior Leadership on relevant aspects of medical device safety.

Required Qualifications:

Undergraduate degree in health discipline required, relevant Masters preferred. Minimum 7-10 years progressive management/leadership experience in a related healthcare environment. Experience with medical devices and the Medical Devices Regulations. Experience in risk assessment and root cause investigation.


Additional Required Qualifications:

Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills. Well-developed teambuilding, leadership and management skills. Well-versed in current Patient Safety evidence and practices. Experience leading cross-functional teams, problem-solving, conflict resolution. Ability to network across the organization and externally. Strong analytical abilities and experience in surveillance/monitoring, trend identification, and developing relevant indicators. Ability to perform and facilitate accurate work and maintain composure under pressure such as challenging conversations, decisions and tight timelines.


Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in Alberta Improvement Way preferred and/or experience in other quality improvement methodologies.
