Your Opportunity:

The Director, Specialty Programs is a leadership role in the Continuing Care portfolio in Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) Edmonton Zone (EZ). The Director works with the Medical Director for Palliative/End of Life Care (PEOLC) and reports directly to the Senior Operating Officer, EZ This position is the Zone Lead for the Urban PEOLC Program, Children’s Home Care and the Adult Day Program (ADP)/CHOICE Programs. This position encompasses leading Zone wide teams from across the care continuum in the development, implementation and evaluation of an integrated and coordinated Strategic Plan and associated business plans for the PEOPLC Program, Children’s Home Care, ADP/CHOICE program. The position is accountable for zone wide monitoring of these services through quality measurement programs with particular focus on strategic measures and outcomes. The position must develop strong working relationships with key stakeholders and leaders within the EZ. In addition, this position is the EZ liaison and representative on Alberta Health and Provincial Palliative initiatives and committees as well as the key contact for government departments & officials for Specialty Programs. The Director provides direct support and expert counsel to the ALA Senior Operating Officer & EZ Leadership Team on all aspects of the Specialty Programs within Continuing Care. This position also works in collaboration with the Medical Lead for PEOLC to ensure integration and alignment of Physician resources and planning to Zone direction. This position is fully responsible & directly accountable for the operations of the following specific program areas within Continuing Care: Urban Palliative Home Care. Palliative Community Consult services. ADP/CHOICE program. Children's Home Care. Management of contracts for palliative & hospice spaces in the EZ & the ADP/CHOICE programs.

Description:

The Director is an influential change agent that promotes process improvement, performance management and change management to support continuous improvements in patient and staff quality and safety and access and flow process improvements within Continuing Care, EZ. The Director provides leadership and support for the integration of project management and process improvement methodologies and performance measures and reporting processes and tools within Continuing Care, EZ. The Director provides information at the portfolio, zone and provincial levels to facilitate the determination of priorities for Continuing Care, EZ in relation to patient and staff quality and safety and capacity planning. Working to achieve organization strategic goals, the Director assists in leading projects within Continuing Care, EZ, coordinating initiatives and activities that support the goals of provincial programs/initiatives as well as best/leading practice. The Director is responsible for ensuring that Continuing Care, EZ services/programs are of highest quality and safe for both clients and staff by measuring and monitoring key performance indicators and reviewing client and staff incidents. The Director ensures that Continuing Care, EZ service provides meet the CCHSS and the EM-BC plans are developed, reviewed, and updated regularly to ensure that client care and safety is not jeopardized in the event of an emergency.

Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in a Health-related discipline. Relevant experience and education may be considered as equivalent. Current membership in good standing with an accredited professional association. A minimum of 5 years' experience in a palliative / hospice / end of life, complex geriatric care and/or children’s home care. Leadership role in an organization of significant size, complexity and diversity. Expertise in strategic leadership, healthcare quality improvement, WHS and EM-BC, process improvement, business case preparation, change and project management is preferred. A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development is required. Practical experience in strategy, policy development, leadership. Conceptual and analytical skills to critically assess information and to synthesize large volumes of information to draw meaningful and relevant conclusion. Knowledge and demonstrated application of business planning and modeling concepts. Knowledge and demonstrated application of change, project and program management theories, principles and practices.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Internet, and E-mail. Knowledge of human resource management and interpreting/application of collective agreement articles to program operations. Uses strategic thinking, considering long-term goals and innovative improvements. Excellence in interpersonal skills, written and oral communication. Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Understanding of and a demonstrated commitment to community partnerships and teamwork.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of programs offered within Continuing Care. Knowledge regarding contract management, inclusive of private for-profit contracts. Knowledge of client centered approach to service; internal/external resources & legislation relevant to Continuing Care. Knowledge related to management & program planning is an asset. Knowledge of standards in the Seniors Health program streams. Knowledge of quality improvement principles. Knowledge of budget/financial systems.
