Successful completion of post-secondary education in Health Informatics, Health Information Management, or a health-related field plus appropriate certification, licensure or recognized designation, required. An appreciation and understanding of the design of classifications and reference terminologies and their applied use in clinical information systems with a primary focus upon SNOMED CT and ICD-10-CA.
Additional Required Qualifications:Intermediate to expert skills in Microsoft Office including Excel with table management and manipulation. Excellent verbal, written, communication and critical thinking skills. Commitment to pursue and complete ongoing professional development on own time to keep abreast of changes in the field of clinical terminologies and related standards.
Preferred Qualifications:A minimum of 3-5 years of related experience as a clinical terminology specialist or clinical coding specialist is preferred. An understanding of SNOMED CT with successful completion of course offerings through SNOMED International or post-secondary education with certification in Terminology Standards, preferred.
