Your Opportunity:

This advanced Clinical Supervisor position is responsible for providing supervision and program development for the Behavioural Health Consultation Service and providing assessment, consultation and referral services to patients, primary care physicians and other allied health professionals There is an emphasis on teaching skills to manage mental health issues to primary care physicians and allied health professionals within the Shared Mental Health Care and Behavioural Health Consultation Programs. The Clinical Supervisor will provide leadership and work collaboratively with team members, psychiatrists and community partners to provide the highest quality of care to clients. The incumbent will co-direct clinical activities of the interdisciplinary team. Patients receiving these services are children, youth, adults and families presenting with varied and complex needs within the primary care setting. The Clinical Supervisor will also provide support to front line staff and physicians in identifying cases requiring referral to specialized resources.

Description:

As a Clinical Supervisor, you will participate in the planning, implementation and evaluation of mental health treatment services in a hospital setting or in the community. You will provide leadership in the supervision of clinical staff, promote and recommend best practices and standards and work collaboratively with members of the interdisciplinary team, psychiatrists and community partners to coordinate the highest quality of care to clients and their families presenting with cognitive and/or behavioural issues in addiction to other complex mental health cases. Your core responsibilities include efficiently managing the triage, treatment and discharge processes and workload assignment; determining client suitability; observing clinical sessions; conducting team case consultations and offering support; providing guidance and direction to clinical staff with challenging and urgent cases in a timely manner. You will also be required to consult and liaise with external agencies as appropriate in addition to developing relationships and collaborating with key stakeholders such as community agencies and referral sources. You will also assume a leadership and supervisory role in which they will be responsible for participating in program development and evaluation, identifying process gaps and risk management issues, ensuring high standards of service delivery through collaborative participation, providing input to management for the annual performance of clinical staff, participating in interviewing clinical staff and staff orientation in addition to assessing clinical competencies and providing varied learning opportunities to staff. You will be required to maintain and develop his/her own professional clinical and supervisory competencies through participation in a variety of learning opportunities such as seminars, workshops and conferences.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of master's degree in Social Work or Psychology. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP) or the Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Registered and in good standing (not under practice restriction or investigation) with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Minimum of eight years demonstrated experience in assessment and treatment of mental health disorders and 3 years of supervisory experience. Training and experience in evidence-based interventions and basic health Psychology. Ability to work within a primary care behavioural health model and ability to apply population-based care principles. Knowledge of basic medications. Ability to teach mental health concepts to front line staff and Family Physicians through application of Principles of Adult Learning. Consults with front line staff and primary care providers on their assessment, treatment, and management of patients with mental health/behavioural problems. Teaches mental health knowledge and techniques to Family Physicians which they can in turn apply in practical ways with their broader patient population. Recommends treatment priorities and sequencing of treatment steps. Role-models assessment and treatment services to front line staff, family physicians and selected patients who present with complex treatment issues in primary care provider practices . Provides coaching to front line staff. Possession of valid Driver s License and access to a vehicle is a requirement and condition of employment as travel is required within the Calgary.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. from an APA/CPA accredited clinical or Counselling Psychology program. Organizes and conducts education/training sessions with primary care providers and other professional groups on mental health and behavioural issues, including the development of training/education sessions. Facilitates referrals for primary care patients to appropriate mental health/psychiatric resources within the Calgary Zone and the community.
