Clinical Nurse Specialist
Your Opportunity:
The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)- acute care with the Palliative Care Consult Service –Foothills Medical Centre and Arthur Child Cancer Center inpatients, provides an advanced level of nursing practice that maximizes the application of in-depth nursing theory, knowledge and skills in meeting the complex health care needs of individuals, families and communities. The CNS functions as a palliative consultant, nursing practice leader, expert practitioner, educator and researcher within Palliative and End of Life Care. The CNS is responsible for the advancement of palliative care activities, working within the inpatient, outpatient and surrounding community. The CNS in acute care with the Palliative Care Consult Service provides advanced, expert nursing consultation for palliative and end of life (EOL) care for in-patients living in the Calgary Zone. The CNS collaborates with leadership and attending teams in all locations of care to build and maintain palliative and EOL care competencies. Lead teams of multiple stakeholders to solve system or care challenges through quality improvement (QI), evaluation and research activities and facilitate implementation of these solutions. Responsibilities include clinical practice and consultation, education, program planning, change leadership, CoP facilitation, research and involvement with policy development related to advanced nursing care and health systems related to Palliative Care.

You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Master's degree in Nursing. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:5-7 years minimum of full-time equivalency of nursing acute care clinical experience, caring for patients experiencing life limiting illness. Ability to work well independently and as part of an interprofessional team. Demonstrated skills as an educator, innovator, and change agent. Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication. Demonstrated leadership, adherence to DEI and trauma-informed care practices, and organizational skills. High level computer literacy skills. Ability to manage competing priorities, multiple interruptions, and difficult conversations. Ability to manage emotionally stressed situations, involving patients, family members and attending teams
Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated experience as an advanced practice palliative nurse in a consultant role. CNA - Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Nursing certified (CHPCN). Completion of the ACP/GCD Course. Completion of the Serious Illness Conversation Workshop. Completion of the How to Care, What to Say Workshop. Completion of Pallium LEAP training.
