Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the manager of the Eye Clinic the Ophthalmic Clinical Educator position is responsible for providing leadership in planning, co-ordination, implementation and evaluation of educational activities for ophthalmic technical personnel, nurses, support staff, patients and residents within the Eye Clinic. This will include orientation, competency assessments, compulsory educational programs, clinical development and continuing education. The clinical educator participates in the development and ongoing maintenance of department education and clinical policy and procedures. The clinical educator will contribute knowledge and experiences to advance standards of care, participate in direct clinical care and support staff in the delivery of care.


As a Clinical Instructor (Technologies), your primary responsibility will be the education and development of staff in our department, as well as other disciplines through orientation and continuing education. You will promote excellence and consistency in best evidence patient care in clinical practice. You will provide direct patient care in order to maintain competency and to understand the educational needs of the department. You will have a role in quality assurance and improvement initiatives, lead and/or participate in research projects, and develop training and educational modules/tools for new equipment/therapy and training requirements.

Required Qualifications:

Active or eligible for registration with the applicable College or Association.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Additional course work in electrophysiology required. Competent in ophthalmic imaging, electrophysiology, perimetry, and ultrasonography. Minimum 4 years work experience, preferably in a tertiary care hospital. Knowledge in best practice guidelines. Demonstrated ability to use adult teaching principles and to promote a positive learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated leadership and strong communication skills. Current BCLS-HCP. Ophthalmic Medical Technologist diploma from an accredited institution. Current COMT, CDOS, ROUB and OSC JCAHPO certification.
