Completion of a Bachelor of Science degree Completion of an accredited program in Clinical Genetics Active membership with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Alberta Registered with the Alberta College of Medical Laboratory Technologists (ACMLT) Certified by the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS)
Additional Required Qualifications:Bachelors of Science Degree plus Advanced Diploma in Clinical Genetics Program (Clinical Genetics Technology through BCIT or The Michener Institute). US ASCP Board Certification in Cytogenetics may be considered. CMLTA registration is mandatory. Knowledge of the theory and practice of human cytogenetic analysis including proper use of ISCN nomenclature is required. Experience with basic laboratory equipment including but not limited to microscopes, incubators, thermocyclers, centrifuges, spectrophotometers, pipettes, biosafety cabinets, and other automated laboratory equipment, is required. Experience with specialized computer imaging platforms for karyotyping and FISH analysis (e.g. Metasystems Ikaros and Isis) is required. Proficient use of Windows-based applications, Microsoft Office suite of programs, and the Internet is required. Proven critical thinking, analytical, problem solving, planning and decision making skills. Strong attention to detail as well as superior organizational and time management skills. Ability to prioritize work and deliver accurate work under stressful conditions. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated interest in continuing education.
Preferred Qualifications:Experience in a diagnostic cytogenetic laboratory is an asset. Minimum 5 years’ experience as a CGT required with a minimum 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role preferred. Experience with chromosomal microarray techniques and analysis software is an asset. Applicants with Clinical Genetics or Cytogenetics CSMLS certification preferred.
