Your Opportunity:

Alberta Health Services, Edmonton Zone Medical Affairs, is currently recruiting for a Clinical Assistant to join the University of Alberta Hospital in the CVICU Department in the Mazankowski Alberta Heart Institute. AHS provides alternative job opportunities for those International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who are not able to obtain independent licensure on their own and/or are unable to obtain a residency position. Clinical Assistants are important members of the collaborative care team at Alberta Health Services (AHS); functioning as mid-level providers under the supervision and direction of physician supervisor(s) to provide acute care coverage within our hospitals. Making a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. Once approved through the prescreening process by AHS IMGs can apply to all Clinical Assistant positions and if hired you will have to complete six-month probation and assessment period. Upon successful completion, you will work in a full-time and permanent acute care coverage role that addresses clinical and/or surgical coverage shortages. Clinical/Surgical Assistants will provide after-hours coverage primarily evening/nights and weekends as well as some daytime service. Clinical/Surgical Assistants will be integrated into the current healthcare team, which includes residents and attending physicians. Successful candidates will be hired as AHS employees with annual remuneration per the CSA Salary grid. Hours are 2610 annually, which on average is 300 hours in a 6-week period.

Description:

All clinical activities are performed under the direction of the most responsible/ attending physician and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary care team. Some of the clinical/surgical assistant responsibilities can include but are not limited to, completing admissions ordering and performing selected diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, assessing and responding to the patient’s medical needs as they arise and planning care throughout the patient’s hospitalization. In this position, you will deliver care to patients within a multidisciplinary team in CVICU. You will be working alongside physicians, nurses, pharmacists and dieticians. Job duties often include the examination of the patient, documenting the history, conducting a complete physical examination, developing a treatment plan in consultation with the attending/supervising physician, writing appropriate orders, and entering these orders into the patient care electronic or manual system.

Required Qualifications:

This posting is only open to International Medical Graduates (IMGs) who are either Canadian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Canada. Candidates must submit a Curriculum Vitae and Clinical Assistant Eligibility Pre-Screen Letter from AHS with their application. Incomplete applications will not be considered. The successful applicant will be responsible for registering and maintaining professional licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of Alberta (CPSA).


Additional Required Qualifications:

Clinical Assistants must meet certain licensure requirements, therefore AHS provides a pre-screening process to ensure interested individuals are eligible. Preferred Qualifications:

It is anticipated this will be a highly competitive job posting. Preference will be given to applicants who have recent experience in an acute care facility; specifically, those who have had specific experience within the last 3 years in CVICU or an ICU setting.
