Chief of Staff, Assisted Living Alberta
Your Opportunity:
Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) is seeking a results-driven and visionary executive to serve as its Chief of Staff (CoS). This executive role is critical to ensuring organizational alignment and operational excellence across all administrative functions within ALA. As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, strategic advisor and ‘right hand’ to the CEO, the CoS is instrumental in providing ALA with day-to-day administrative oversight and proactive issues management. You will oversee and integrate core administrative services related to Continuing Care services across the province while driving strategic initiatives that support and improve the health and wellness of all Albertans throughout their lifespan. Working closely with other health leaders to build the future of Continuing Care delivery in Alberta, this is an opportunity to address systemic challenges, improve the lives of seniors and individuals with complex needs, and leave a lasting legacy in the continuing care and assisted living system. This role is located in Edmonton and is expected to be on site. ALA is a newly established provincial organization under the oversight of Assisted Living and Social Services (ALSS) committed to transforming Alberta’s continuing care system. This system includes both Continuing Care and Home & Community Care and is focused on providing wraparound supports to ensure all Albertans can access the care they need, when and where they need it – regardless of age, diagnosis, or duration of need. ALA’s mission is to enable Albertans to live and age with dignity in environments that best support their health, independence, and well-being. By addressing systemic challenges such as long wait times, limited access for individuals with complex needs, and healthcare system pressures, ALA seeks to deliver timely, integrated, and innovative care solutions.
Description:
ALA’s Chief of Staff (CoS) bridges the gap between its Executive and the broader team, managing workflows, facilitating communication, and driving key initiatives. Acting on behalf of the CEO where appropriate, this role provides operational oversight, ensuring that ALA’s tactics and direction remain aligned with its strategic plan and the CEO’s intent. It demands a visionary, driven, and focused leader capable of navigating uncertainty, solving problems with agility, and uniting and developing people, policies, and projects, both internally in close partnership with Alberta Health’s Shared Services Organization. Reporting to the CEO, the CoS will maintain and foster strategic partnerships which effectively and proactively resolve emerging issues at the lowest level. The role establishes back-office functions to strengthen ALA’s impact and reach, enabling it to deliver transformative Continuing Care and Social Services to Albertans. In close partnership with ALA’s executive leaders, the CoS will build and manage ALA’s leadership team, develop, implement and monitor policies and projects which support its goals and obligations, and contribute to system improvements (e.g. through committee work). The CoS will also facilitate effective communication between ALA’s executive team, government representatives, Commissioner’s Office and community partners. Additionally, the CoS oversees the budget for the office, authorizes expenditures, and approves appropriate expenses, purchases, and reimbursements. This executive advisory role provides resolutions to emerging continuing care issues affecting the health authority and its service partners. Furthermore, this role provides the CEO with recommendations via briefing notes, proposals, and options analysis.
