Master’s degree in Theology and/or Spirituality. Current Membership (in good standing) or Associate Membership of CASC (Canadian Association for Spiritual Care) or APC (Association of Professional Chaplains). CPE Specialist Certification with CASC or APC or in process with a commitment to achieve certification within a year. Minimum 3 years of clinical experience as a Spiritual Care Practitioner in an acute care or hospital setting within the last 5 years. Heart and Stroke BLS (Basic life support – requirement for all health care providers).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Experience educating and empowering staff and religious community members to share in the work of spiritual care. Professional experience leveraging active listening skills, prioritizing and planning for the coordination of care needs, needs related to death, dying, and bereavement. Experience using an array of clinical skills to actively support patients, families, staff and related responsibilities in compliance with confidentiality requirements. Demonstrated effective collaboration between colleagues, staff, volunteers and community resources. Accomplished oral and written communication skills as well as knowledge of psychological theory, chronic disease care, end-of-life care and family dynamics. Professional computer and technology skills to facilitate interdisciplinary charting and communication. Strong public speaking and presentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum 1 year experience as a Spiritual Care Practitioner in a Renal or Chronic Illness clinical setting within the last 3 years. Clinical Pastoral Education – completion of 1st and 2nd Advanced Units and/or Clinical Pastoral Education – completion of 1st and 2nd Basic Units Clinical ethics training.
