Your Opportunity:

The Surgical Processor at the Colon Cancer Screening Centre (CCSC) must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with rapid patient turnover. This position is responsible for performing the specialized reprocessing of procedural equipment utilizing both manual and automated processes. The Surgical Processor performs testing and basic maintenance of the equipment and its functionality. The successful candidate will support maintaining supplies at CCSC through ordering, distribution and stocking as needed. The Surgical Processor is responsible for maintaining the equipment storage cupboards and assuring that all technical equipment is appropriately stored. Daily duties may vary depending on the needs of the department.

Description:

As a Surgical Processor, you will be responsible for the decontamination, reassembly and sterilization of hospital supplies, equipment and surgical instrumentation. You will use the principles of aseptic technique and follow Universal Precautions in the prevention of Hospital Acquired Infections (HAI). You will ensure instrumentation and equipment is in proper working order, perform biological, chemical and quality assurance testing and report problems to the supervisor or designate.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) program. Completion of an Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) certification or Canadian Standards Association (CSA) certification.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Graduate of recognized CRCST Program (CSA or IAHCSMM). Current reprocessing experience required. Manual dexterity and ability to perform repetitive tasks using fine motor skills; ability to work in an enclosed area and stand for long periods at a time. The position requires frequent walking, bending, lifting and constant repetitive motions. Must be able to continuously lift scope sets weighing 10 kg (22lbs) and occasionally lift up to 18kg (40lbs). The position requires the frequent handling of chemicals and biohazard materials which will require the use of protective gear including mask, protective eyewear, gloves and clothing when working with these materials. Experience working with computerized equipment. Meticulous attention to detail. Strong organizational and communication skills required. Must be capable of continuous productivity in stressful situations. Ability to foster positive interpersonal communication and work effectively with members of a multi-disciplinary team required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Minimum 1-2 years previous experience working with endoscopes.
