The Stollery Children’s Hospital is the primary acute care centre for infants, children and youth in the Edmonton Area, and is Western Canada’s referral centre for pediatric cardiac surgery and national leader in organ transplantation. Since opening in 2001, the Stollery has developed as a specialized site with expertise and programs to ensure children receive the best care possible. Highly-skilled health professionals from around the world have made the Stollery a well-recognized center for specialized pediatric and neonatal services. This position is with the Stollery Children's hospital Respiratory Therapy Department.


As the Assistant Manager - Stollery Respiratory Therapy, you will be responsible for the direct supervision of Respiratory Therapists and support staff as assigned. A key focus of this role involves the coordination and organization of assigned human, financial and material resources to ensure effective program delivery, and the identification and resolution of issues that impact service to the site which may include managing employee performance and attendance matters. In the Assistant Manager position, you will be the first line of contact for assigned staff to resolve problems related to staffing, patient care or other service concerns. You will also ensure that adequate staff are scheduled and available on a 24-hour basis. You will contribute to program development and work with the leadership team to collaborate on problem solving, ensuring efficient use of resources; and finding innovative solutions to challenges and opportunities that arise.

Required Qualifications:

Graduate degree or diploma in a relevant healthcare field. 5 years relevant experience in healthcare. Computer skills essential. Familiarity with applicable legislation and professional Standards of Practice. A combination of education, skills and experience may be considered.

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated leadership skills and abilities. Must be able to integrate and apply clinical excellence in day to day operations. Demonstrated optimism and enthusiasm about the Respiratory Therapy Department with commitment to continuous quality improvement. Demonstrated managerial competencies that include excellent communication skills, leadership qualities, problem solving, conflict resolution, analytical thinking, interpersonal and group management skills, change management, organization and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Excellent and current knowledge in all clinical aspects of service delivery within Respiratory Therapy. Graduate of a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy. Previous supervisory experience. Completion of courses or certificates in leadership.
