Assistant Head Nurse - Pediatrics & Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Your Opportunity:
Reporting to the manager of Pediatrics and Neonatal Intensive Care, the NICU/Peds Assistant Head Nurse is responsible and accountable for frontline clinical support, acting as a resource and in a consultative capacity while leading a team of multidisciplinary care providers. The AHN is actively involved in resource allocation, patient flow, implementing and maintaining clinical best practice standards and workforce optimization. The AHN position demands demonstrated ability in change management, strategic and collaborative leadership, and ability to engage an interdisciplinary team in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision of AHS.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:NRP or PALS certification. Need to obtain either certification within 2 months of entering position. Minimum 5 years of acute care experience in either NICU or Pediatrics. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated critical thinking skills. Ability to follow and adhere to AHS policies, procedures, goals and quality initiatives. Strong assessment skills to recognize and respond appropriately. Central Line certification.
Preferred Qualifications:Degree preferred. Preference for individual with both Pediatric and NICU experience. Preference for individual who has had formal leadership role. Staffing/ESP experience. Courses/demonstrated ability in conflict resolution. Courses in leadership. Cardio/respiratory monitoring experience. Involvement with formal Quality Initiative project. Mentoring/coaching experience. Courses/demonstrated experience in Change Management.
