Your Opportunity:

As an Assistant Head Nurse - Inpatient Psychiatry you will be in a leading in scope position responsible for organization and collaboration within the interdisciplinary team. These responsibilities include admission coordination, patient treatment planning, participation in rounds representing nursing services, critical problem solving regarding service delivery, and holistic discharge planning. This position holds patient direct care involvement with reduced client load, and coverage for staffing requiring breaks. This position requires enhanced problem solving ability and service coordination with the ability to manage interpersonal relationships. An exciting opportunity exists in St. Paul, Alberta! St. Paul is located approximately 200 km northeast of Edmonton. The area is home to approximately 6000 people. St. Paul is along the southern leg of the Iron Horse Trail - 300 km of former railroad that has been adapted for hiking, biking, horseback riding, quadding, or snowmobiling. If trails aren't for you, they also offer both indoor and outdoor ice rinks, a curling rink, a riding barn and fair grounds, tennis courts, golf course, ball diamonds and soccer fields. Camping, fishing and other lake activities are in abundance as there are many, many beautiful lakes surrounding our town. Living in a small town that is close to a big city offers the best of all worlds.

Description:

As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated knowledge regarding common medications of psychiatry, including effects, side effects and clinical judgement regarding discretionary PRN usage. Greater than 3 year’s acute psychiatric nursing experience. Demonstrate excellence in communication skills through scenario questions exploration. Experience as Charge Nurse to an Acute Inpatient Psychiatric Facility.

Preferred Qualifications:

Effective educational skills for patients and staff. Expert stress management techniques for personal and debrief utilization. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Skills - Alternative programming accepted with material reviewing. Indigenous cultural awareness. Master's Degree in Nursing Studies.
