Assistant Head Nurse
Your Opportunity:
In collaboration with the Manager, the AHN performs a key leadership role in the organizational and operational function of the Ambulatory Care and IV Therapy clinics at both STCH and NECHC. This multi-site position will provide direction, leadership, and frontline clinical support, making unit-level decisions while working within a multidisciplinary team – all in accordance with AHS policies, procedures, and values. The AHN will assume responsibility for daily staffing, optimizing patient flow, assisting with operative planning, quality improvement, and the implementation of related initiatives. The AHN is expected to promote quality patient care and team effectiveness through clinical and professional role modeling, by using effective interpersonal and conflict resolution skills. The AHN will work with the Manager and/or CNE(s) to assist with skills assessment, staff development, and assist with performance appraisals. The AHN will develop and maintain strong working relationships with key stakeholders (Providers, staff, patients, peers, and leadership). The AHN fosters team effectiveness while communicating effectively and developing a supportive environment for all teams, while maintaining their own strong nursing practice. The AHN recognizes the value of and works within a Patient and Family Centered Care philosophy, while promoting a respectful and positive work environment. The AHN will also be expected to participate/lead unit huddles, as well as various committee involvement.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:Minimum of 2 years of Charge Nurse experience is required (within the past year). A Bachelor of Science degree in nursing is required. Excellent leadership, interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Demonstrated reliability and dependability are required. Proven ability to facilitate groups and manage change in a positive manner. Applicants must have strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, and the ability to successfully manage conflict in the workplace. The applicant must have a proven history of working collaboratively, as well as working independently. Must be capable of providing clinical care in a fast-paced environment within a variety of Ambulatory/IV clinics. Successful applicant must have Connect Care experience, and strong competency with computer skills (Microsoft applications, WFM, general troubleshooting).
Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to those with previous/recent leadership experience, or those that have shown initiative in leadership development.
