Your Opportunity:

Assisted Living Alberta (ALA) seeks a professional with strong board governance experience to provide governance, administrative, and strategic coordination support to the Board Chair, Board members, and Board committees. Reporting to the Chief of Staff and working closely with the Board Chair and executive leadership, the Board Coordination helps ensure the Board has the information, processes, and records required to fulfill its governance, oversight, and accountability responsibilities. The Board Coordination coordinates Board and committee business, prepares agendas, briefing materials, correspondence, and governance documents, and acts as a primary liaison with Board members, executive leadership, and Alberta government ministries. This role requires sound judgement, discretion, attention to detail, and a practical understanding of board governance and formal decision-making processes. Candidates with a paralegal background and experience supporting boards or corporate governance are particularly encouraged to apply.

Description:

The Board Coordination coordinates Board and committee governance processes, applying knowledge of board mandates, bylaws, terms of reference, policies, and meeting procedures to support effective decision-making. Responsibilities include preparing and reviewing agendas and briefing materials for completeness, documenting minutes and resolutions accurately, maintaining confidential governance records, and tracking Board decisions, action items, and reporting deadlines. The role supports the review and maintenance of governance documents, Board work plans, and annual governance calendars, and coordinates Board member onboarding. Working with executive leadership and relevant subject matter experts, the Board Coordination identifies procedural or documentation gaps, follows up on outstanding matters, and escalates issues requiring clarification or direction. The role requires experience handling sensitive information and maintaining accurate, accessible records of Board deliberations and decisions. The Board Coordination supports annual and multi-year strategic planning, monitors follow-through on Board-approved priorities, and coordinates timely information for strategic and financial oversight. The role prepares status reports on progress, risks, and matters requiring Board consideration, and coordinates stakeholder engagements, meetings, events, travel, and Board and Chair expenses in accordance with ALA policies and delegated authorities.
